I was just down in L.A. rubbing elbows with the glitterati and decided to make a side trip to Pacific Palisades to see the Eames House. It's a museum now and you can tour the outside while peering in through the windows to see the Eames' personal furniture and knick knacks. It was built in 1949 as part of the Case Study House Project (House #8), it's modern but also warm and livable something that today's designers could learn from.
I also visited the nearby Eames Office in Santa Monica which had an exhibit of letters from Charles and Ray in the early years, including one Charles wrote saying that he would ask Ray to marry him ... really soon. It was an inspiration to see how Charles and Ray collaborated throughout their lives.
