Opening on February 1st at Arts Underground in Whitehorse, the show will run for the entire month of February.
Gortwerks is an exploration of contrasts – strong geometric shapes tempered by organic forms. Each piece is characterized by clean lines, the use of centuries-old joinery techniques and materials carefully selected for their individual qualities. Gortwerks marks another step in my evolution as a craftsman, revealing new sides of my design aesthetic.
The collection is influenced by renowned Japanese-American furniture maker George Nakashima, whose legacy instructs respect for the tree and the exercise of restraint, allowing the individual character of the wood to dictate form.
Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.
