I finally delivered on a long standing promise to build a new bed for me and the missus...
The frame is made of cherry, with a live edge piece of Alaskan yellow birch I picked up on a recent trip to Haines, Alaska used for the head and foot board.
The legs are through mortised and wedged into the top rail while the side rails are held in place with a japanese 'saga kama' joint used in ancient temple construction. The bottom slats are vertical grain douglas fir.
Here is the bed dry assembled in the shop with shaping of the legs and side rail mortises still to be done. You can also see the layout lines for the mortise and tenon on the top rail.
